Tania Sohan has served as a resource advisor for the Defense Logistics Agency Research and Development directorate for over 24 years, managing and executing $318M of the R&D portfolio that covers Logistics R&D, Manufacturing Technology and Small Business Innovation Research. She manages and advises DLA R&D senior management on resource execution and programming and provides the financial oversight of allocated program budget review requirements which includes funding issues and resource commitments in the R&D Program Management Office. DLA R&D fosters innovation in logistics and supply chain management with programs including castings, forgings, batteries, additive manufacturing, military uniforms, combat rations, micro-electronics, energy, and storage and distribution.
Prior to this, she worked in the private sector for 22 years as a financial analyst supporting DLA R&D. Ms. Sohan is recognized for consistently delivering strong financial performance. She has played a key role in several successful financial audits, consistently meeting the Under Secretary of Defense Comptroller annual obligation target to ensure allocated budget funding is used for 99.9% of DLA R&D’s portfolios, and regularly conducts variance analysis to reallocate funding and adjusts spending plans to ensure budget adherence.
Early in her government career, Ms. Sohan created a comprehensive financial tracking spreadsheet to manage and maintain the R&D budget. This document has become the team’s key resource for up-to-date and centralized budget performance information, such as program total obligation authority and current execution statuses for commitments, obligations and expenditures.
Ms. Sohan has received advanced training in certified Defense Financial Management and appropriations law. She also took training in information technology with a specialization in microcomputers from George Mason University.
