Colonel Woodward (Woodje) Caldwell

Deputy Director, DLA Disposition Services

COL Woodward Caldwell serves as deputy director of Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services, a DLA major sub-command tasked with supporting the disposal of defense material no longer needed for national security while protecting the public from dangerous defense items through responsible property reuse, hazardous property disposal, demilitarization, precious metals recovery and recycling initiatives.

COL Caldwell is from Waynesville, North Carolina, and spent his youth between the Smokey Mountains and Florida Everglades. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business economics from Wofford College, and master’s degrees in global supply chain management from the University of Kansas and in strategic studies from the Army War College. COL Caldwell’s military education includes the Army War College, the Army Command and General Staff College and Army Force Management Course. He also completed the Combined Logistics Officer Advanced Course, Infantry Officer Basic Course and Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle Leaders Course.

COL Caldwell previously served as military deputy for the Inventory, Transportation, and Disposal Management Division in the Policy and Strategic Programs Directorate, DLA Logistics Operations, where he provided leadership, guidance, and oversight to the Enterprise Business Cycles of Plan to Stock and Excess to Disposal. COL Caldwell’s military experience stems from a broad and deep developmental assignment history over the past 27 years of active federal continuous service. Prior to DLA he served as Chief, Sustainment Plans, G4, U.S. Army Central. Additional roles include Brigade S4, Brigade Support Battalion (BSB) Executive Officer, Corps Sustainment Support Battalion (CSSB) S3, Maintenance Company Commander and Mechanized Infantry Platoon Leader. Generating Force Assignments include 1st Army Division East G3/5/7 and BSB Commander, instructor at the Command and General Staff College and Sustainment Warfighting Function Chief of Operations Group Charlie for the Mission Command Training Program. He deployed in support combat operations under U.S.-led coalitions as a brigade support operations officer in Afghanistan and a Military Transition Team leader in Iraq. He has extensive experience in the Indo-Pacific and Middle East theaters. He is a fully Joint Qualified Officer.

COL Caldwell’s awards include Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Expert Infantryman’s Badge.

COL Caldwell is married and has an adult son.
