COL Edward Runyan is currently the commander of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Central Command (CENTCOM) and Special Operations Command (SOCOM) Regional Command at MacDill AFB, FL.
He is a native of Pueblo, Colorado, and commissioned into the United States Army in 2004 from Colorado State University- Pueblo; earning Distinguished Military Graduate and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. His military education includes the Ordnance Officer Basic Course, Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course, the Army Command and General Staff College, and the US Army War College. He holds a Master of Military Arts and Sciences from the Army Command and General Staff College and a Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
COL Edward Runyan recently attended the Army War College from July 2024 to June 2025, and prior to that, he served as a Logistics Human Resource Manager in the Colonels Management Office from July 2022 to June 2024. Other significant assignments include: Commander, 242D OD BN (EOD), Fort Carson, Colorado; EOD Officer Career Manager, Human Resource Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky; Executive Officer to the Commanding General, 1ST Theater Sustainment Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky; S3, 71ST Ordnance Group (EOD), Fort Carson, Colorado; S3 and Executive Officer, 63D Ordnance Battalion (EOD), Fort Drum, New York; Air Ordnance Division Chief, Naval School EOD, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida; Commander, 53D OD CO (EOD), Yakima Training Center, Washington. COL Runyan has deployed in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE, ENDURING FREEDOM, and IRAQI FREEDOM.
COL Runyan’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal (6 OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, the Combat Action Badge, Master Explosive Ordnance Disposal Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
COL Runyan is married to the former Denise Varner of Canon City, Colorado. They have two children: Eddie (11) and Genevieve (10).
