Mr. James Stanford

DLA Distribution Chief of Staff

James (Jim) B. Stanford currently serves as the Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Chief of Staff.

He joined DLA Distribution in March 2015 and previously served as the Director of Network Integration. As Director, Stanford was responsible for the integration of operational information across the Distribution Network, operation of the Distribution Logistics Operations Center, future operations, strategic engagement with the military services and whole of government, workload management and the development of metrics visualization across the distribution network.

Prior to that Stanford served as the Chief of Contingency Plans and Exercises, Plans, Training and Modernization, DLA Distribution. He began his civilian service with the Defense Logistics Agency following his retirement from the U.S. Army in 2014.

Prior to his Civilian Service, Stanford served as an officer in the U.S. Army for nearly 26 years. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. of transportation on May 25, 1988 as he graduated from the University of Tulsa. After graduating from the Transportation Officer Basic School, he served as a Transportation Platoon Leader in the 471st Transportation Company at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He served in a variety of positions of increasing responsibility that included Company Command in the 101st Airborne Division, Air Assault, Battalion Command of the 831st Transportation Battalion aboard Naval Support Activity Bahrain, and Brigade Command of the 595th Transportation Brigade in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. Stanford culminated his military service as the Director of Logistics for the U.S. Army Cyber Command at Fort Meade, Maryland.

In addition to his bachelor’s degree, Stanford earned a Master of Business Administration from Trident University and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. Stanford’s personal Awards include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Meritorious Civilian Service Award.
