CAPT Dan W. Metz is a native of Oregon and a graduate of Willamette University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Political Science. He was commissioned in June 2002 through the Officer Candidate School program in Pensacola, Fl.
CAPT Metz holds a Master of Business Administration degree from University of Washington’s Foster School of Business through the Navy’s 810 Civilian Education Program, and is a graduate from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and Harvard School of Business Executive Education Programs.
His operational experience includes afloat assignments in USS EMORY S. LAND (AS-39) in La Maddalena, Italy; as Supply Officer in USS JIMMY CARTER (SSN 23); as Aviation Stores Officer in USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72) during two FIFTH / SEVENTH FLEET deployments; and as Supply Officer in USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) where he deployed to the Western Pacific SEVENTH FLEET Area of Responsibility.
Captain Metz assumed command of Defense Logistics Agency, Pacific Region on 18 June, 2026. His previous shore assignments include Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff for Aviation at Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS); Carrier Strike Group Readiness Officer and Assistant Force Supply Officer, Naval Air Forces Atlantic; Aviation Weapon Support Department Director, H-60 Integrated Weapon Support Team Director and Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE) Action Officer, NAVSUP WSS; Supply Chain Action Officer, Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV N412); Petroleum Logistics Officer at Joint Petroleum Office, J4 Logistics Directorate at U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM); and Business Financial Management Intern at Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) in the Tomahawk Weapon System Program.
CAPT Metz has earned supply warfare qualifications in aviation, submarines and surface warfare. He is certified Level III in Lifecycle Logistics and Level II in Financial Management, and is a member of the Defense Acquisition Professional Community. His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, among other personal and unit and campaign commendations.
