Navy Rear Adm. Tim Brown assumed command of Defense Logistics Agency Energy, a major subordinate command of DLA, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, on Sept. 3, 2026. As commander, he is responsible for enabling mission readiness by providing globally resilient energy solutions to the warfighter and the whole of government.
Prior to his arrival at DLA Energy, Brown served as Acting Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Installations and Logistics (N4) and as Director of the Supply, Ordnance and Logistics Operations Division (N4L) in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. He oversaw Navy policy, funding oversight and management of material handling and shipboard support equipment for fleets and shore activities.
Brown’s operational assignments include supply officer in Mine Countermeasures Rotational Crew Delta aboard the USS Warrior and USS Dextrous; material officer, aviation support officer and preventive maintenance manager aboard the USS Kitty Hawk; and supply officer aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt. During those tours, he deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Operation Inherent Resolve and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
His shore assignments include serving as a dual naval acquisition contracting officer and business/financial management intern at Naval Air Systems Command headquarters in Patuxent River, Maryland; director of fixed-wing contracts, as a fleet readiness center officer and head of the organic and interservice repair division while at Naval Inventory Control Point Philadelphia; section head for Program Objective Memorandum development and the Working Capital Fund on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, D.C.; defense resource manager in the Programming and Budget Analysis Division, Contingency Operations Branch (J8), on the Joint Staff; deputy force supply officer (N41), Naval Air Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet; as the comptroller (N8) of Naval Supply Systems Command, Weapons Systems Support; as the commanding officer of Naval Supply Systems Command, Fleet Logistics Center in San Diego; and the force supply officer for Naval Air Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
The McPherson, Kansas, native graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, receiving a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1997. He completed the Basic Qualification Course and Supply Officer Department Head Course at the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, Georgia, in 1998. He earned an MBA from Harvard in 2006. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various campaign and unit awards. He is a qualified naval aviation supply officer, a surface warfare officer, a joint qualified officer and is a member of the Navy Acquisition Professional Community.
