Richmond, Va –
The new school year has begun in the greater Richmond area and Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, employees organized a group of givers who helped students in need by contributing school supplies to the local Bensley Elementary School, one of the schools in Chesterfield County.
Defense Logistics Agency Aviation’s Norma Hendricks, a material planner in the Planning Process Directorate said this is one way to help out the community. She said employees, from the Customer Intelligence-Focused Team, donated the items and volunteers donated their time Aug. 29 to deliver the items to the school.
“Giving the donated school supplies directly to the schools allows teachers to give the supplies to the particular students in need,” said Hendricks.
She said the group also organized a clothing drive for the Richmond Chapter of Dress for Success Central Virginia to donate lightly-worn items that help low-income women prepare for job interviews. Bins are located in the Center Restaurant dining area for collecting clothing through Sept. 6.
