RICHMOND, VA –
Name: Evangeline Moore
Organization: DLA Aviation-Cherry Point, Material Management Division
Years of Service: 35 years
What is your job title, and what do you do, specifically? As an equipment specialist, I perform various duties. I create/maintain/update material master records and national stock numbers in the Enterprise Business System for various engine shops; T64, T400, F402 and T58.
What do you like most about your job? The thing I like most about my job is knowing at the end of the day, I have made a difference in support of the warfighters and our Fleet Readiness Center East customers.
What aspect of your current job gives you the most personal satisfaction and why? I get personal satisfaction when our customers send emails thanking me for doing an awesome job, or saying I’m the best. It’s all about customer support. I love pleasing my customers.
If you could speak directly to the warfighters you support, what would you tell them? Thank you for protecting our country. It’s an honor to be here and supporting you in whatever you need to complete your mission.
What was your first job? In 1974, I worked as an office administrator at Texas Gulf in Aurora, North Carolina. I worked out of a building they called The White House.
What advice would you have given yourself 10 years ago? I would tell myself to stay on course and stick to your retirement plan.
What is the most surprising thing others don’t know about you? People are surprised to know I created the Smith Foundation, a non-profit foundation in remembrance of my brother Tarzan and two nephews, Royal Jr. and Timothy Smith. They died when their scallop boat, The Lady Mary, sank off the coast of Cape May, New Jersey, March 24, 2009. The foundation has awarded more than $24,000 in scholarships to 39 students in Craven County, North Carolina. The foundation has also awarded close to $4,000 to eight community organizations in Craven and nearby Pamlico counties. All I can say is God is good. We turned a tragedy into giving back to the community.
What are some of your passions outside of work? As you can tell from the foundation I created, I’m passionate about service to others. I’m also very passionate about spending as much time as possible with my family.
What’s the most thrilling thing you have ever done? I was once in Washington D.C. to see the Houston Oilers play the Washington Redskins. At the hotel, I ended up in an elevator with now retired Oilers quarterback Warren Moon. I almost had a heart attack!
If you had a theme song, what would it be and why? If I had a theme song, it would be Dolly Parton’s’ Working 9-to-5 because I’m always working.
If you could pick a personal motto, what would it be? Live each day as if it was your last.
Who is the most influential person in your life...past or present? The most influential people in my life were my parents, Clyde Lovett and Mary Elizabeth Smith.
If you could start your life over again, what would you do differently? That’s simple. Nothing. I thank God for my parents for teaching and instilling in me to be the type of person I am today. My journey through life has been a series of awesome experiences. Everything happens for a reason, every action has a reaction and every choice was mine to make. I’m truly blessed with my loving husband of 44 years, two beautiful daughters, two handsome sons, two son-in-laws and nine grandchildren.
