Richmond, Va. –
Defense Logistics Agency Aviation hosted a DLA, Commercial Technology Maintenance Activities and CTMA’s partner, National Center Manufacturing Sciences supply chain and sustainment partners meeting on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, May 7-9.
DLA Aviation Deputy Commander Charlie Lilli welcomed the crowd of federal employees and industry partners.
“Welcome and thanks for coming. It’s great to have you here at the home of DLA Aviation,” said Lilli. “Our mission is to provide parts for airplanes. That’s a real challenge given their age. Did you know that most of the Aircraft we support qualify for an antique plate? The average age of our aircraft fleet is 27 years.”
Lilli said DLA Aviation has a specific role within the Department of Defense: provide parts support to maintenance activities. In speaking to industry partners, Lilli said, “Your mission and the technologies you bring to support maintenance will go a long way to helping us solve a difficult puzzle and hopefully we will facilitate us getting airplanes back in the air.”
Lilli closed by saying he is always available to meet and thanked everyone for taking the opportunity to meet collectively to help establish direction and partnerships that will produce long-term benefits for DoD.
The meeting theme was “Supplying Game-Changing Technology to DoD’s Sustainment Community” and featured keynote speakers representing DoD, DLA, the military services and industrial partners focused on supply chain, sustainment and readiness.
The agenda also included interactive maintenance, supply and technology panels on various topics, including condition-based maintenance, autonomic logistics, additive manufacturing and other disruptive technologies.
