Sliman receives DMSM for achievements as commander, DLA Distribution Europe

DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Army Col. Zorn T. Sliman has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his numerous accomplishments while serving as commander, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Europe from June 2016 to June 2018.

Under Sliman’s leadership, DLA Distribution Europe directly supported numerous operations in Europe, Afghanistan, and Eastern Africa, enabling DLA Distribution Europe to successfully further the DLA footprint in the EUCOM theater by providing support to Operation Atlantic Resolve and playing a vital role in the coordination of DDXX participation in Exercise Saber Strike.

Concurrently, the distribution center supported a growing global combat support system-Army mission, which surpassed customer planned storage capacities and materials.

Army Col. Theodore B. Shinkle, commander, DLA Europe & Africa, reflected on Sliman’s accomplishments over his two-year command.

“Col. Sliman is a special leader and under his leadership, this distribution center has proven what an incredible capability that DLA provides to the combatant commanders, leading this distribution center to serve as the logistics hub for supporting Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.”

Sliman’s leadership was instrumental in moving the distribution center above 85 percent in both high-priority material release orders for all but three months.  When DLA initiated a command and control (C2) concept for overseas continental United States areas of responsibilities, Sliman meticulously guided DLA Distribution Europe in reshaping its reporting and mission strategy to ensure that both DLA Distribution Europe and DLA Europe and Africa were included in the strategic and customer interfacing.  To ensure a successful transition, DLA Distribution personnel were advised and mentored to make the transition with zero impact to customer focus while maintaining the highest quality of support to the joint warfighter, resulting in DLA Distribution Europe successfully managing a dramatic increase in the global combat support system-Army mission under Sliman’s command.

“His accomplishments are simply outstanding!  Col. Sliman leaves DLA Distribution Europe with a legacy of innovation, continual improvement, and dedication to quality,” said Shinkle.
