MWR holds second annual Bellwood Bash at DSCR

By Natalie Skelton DLA Aviation Public Affairs Office

Defense Logistics Agency Installation Operations Richmond’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation Office rang in its second annual Bellwood Bash Family and Friends Day Aug. 14, welcoming guests to enjoy food, DJ music, kids’ activities and a 5K fun run/walk on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia.

Bellwood Bash was created to celebrate the DLA community and families, and this year’s event promised even more fun with volleyball, horseshoes and corn hole, live entertainment and door prize giveaways. Kids ages three to 12, expended their energy in bounce houses, tried their hand at crafts and received custom artwork at the temporary tattoo station.

Devon Fenrick, product specialist, Supplier Operations Commodities Directorate, DLA Aviation, brought his son Deandre to experience the Bellwood Bash, and said the event was great for morale. When asked if he enjoyed the event, Deandre said, “It’s great to spend time with my dad.”

The fun run/walk opened the event, and the first 50 participants to register received a free t-shirt when they signed up at the starting line. Guests later refueled with an all-American meal of hot dogs and hamburgers, barbecue pork and chicken.

“It’s awesome to bring family and enjoy a family, stress-free day and to let your hair down,” said Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Mayra Narkevic, logistics specialist, Logistics Department, Naval Operational Support Center, Richmond.

The event’s success was largely due to its gang of willing volunteers; roughly 30 people gave of their time and labor to ensure the Bellwood Bash went off without a hitch.

“The food was tasty and the vendors that were set up were helpful, like the employee benefits specialist who talked to me about retirement,” said Narkevic.

Bellwood Bash was generously sponsored by First Command Financial Services, Bellwood Federal Credit Union, Movement Mortgage, USAA Insurance, Sprint Wireless, Wells Fargo, and G.P.I.S. Employee Benefits Specialist.
