YOKOSUKA, Japan –
DLA Distribution Yokosuka, Japan’s, commanding officer Navy Cmdr. Allen Rivera, and other key leadership personnel, participated in the Command Fleet Activity, Yokosuka Remembrance Ceremony of the 9/11 terrorist attacks against the United States on Sept. 11.
The ceremony, led by Navy Chief Petty Officers Selects from throughout CFAY, began at 7:59 a.m.; commemorating the departure time of the first airplane that was taken over by terrorists. While a flag was slowly unfolded and refolded, the Chief Selects related the timeline of events. A tolling of the bell was sounded with the mentioning of each impact of the four airplanes that crashed into the World Trade Center Towers, the Pentagon, and into the field in Pennsylvania.
The ceremony was held at the CFAY Fire Department, giving homage to the first responders who gave their lives in the protection of the nation, and the saving of countless other lives that could have been lost. The folded flag used for today’s ceremony was presented to the fire chief of the Fire Department for display as a living memorial to that fateful day.
