By Tim Hoyle DLA Disposition Services

Defense Logistics Agency employees at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, recently welcomed the new commander of the 1st Theater Sustainment Command for a visit.

Navy Lt. Cmdr. Steve Harrell, officer in in charge of DLA Disposition Services-Afghanistan, and some of his staff recently provided Army Maj. Gen. John Sullivan with a “walk and talk” of current capabilities, surge capacity, and the demilitarization process of up-armored equipment.  The conversation also included the challenges and differences faced by DLA Disposition Services in supporting the different Iraq and Afghanistan missions.

“He has worked with DLA before and is very familiar with the agency’s capabilities,” Harrell said. This was an opportunity to reset the stage on our current theater posture and to reassure the 1st TSC that we are here to support the warfighter.”

According to a 1st TSC news story, Sullivan assumed command July 2 at a Fort Knox, Kentucky, ceremony where he relieved Army Maj. Gen. Flem B. “Donnie” Walker Jr. In his remarks, Sullivan stated that he is “committed to maintaining the Army Central Command’s established reputation for excellence.”

“Working with all of you, I look forward to navigating the challenges and opportunities which lay ahead,” Sullivan said.
