As the Defense Logistics Agency continues supporting COVID-19 efforts across the globe, DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Gavin Lawrence recognized employees maintaining the mission and meeting new requirements June 30 during a virtual performance review.
“Our warfighters and other customers have continued to be recipients of your dynamic support and superior service,” Lawrence told employees who’ve spent the past four months teleworking.
He presented coins to Inventory Management Specialist Ligia Perkins and Acting Individual Equipment Division Chief Mark Twardziak, both from the Clothing and Textiles supply chain.
Perkins created national stock numbers for 45 items including personal protective equipment like coveralls, masks and gowns.
“She dedicates much of her daily work routine to these COVID-19 PPE items” while managing routine items, said Lisa Raucheisen, chief of C&T’s Organizational Clothing and Individual Equipment Planning Division.
Perkins is thankful for the recognition.
“I think it’s very thoughtful for the DLA Troop Support commander and my C&T leadership to take the time to recognize the workforce for the outstanding work they are doing,” Perkins said. “[Virtual recognition] is definitely different, but it’s not surprising that we can all adjust and overcome these challenging times in an effort to get back to normal. I am thankful for that.”
Twardziak was recognized for leading his division as it reduced back orders for body armor. With COVID-19 related delays in equipment testing, Twardziak spearheaded an initiative with service program offices to shift some body armor testing from the Army’s Aberdeen Test Center to commercial test sites to reduce future bottlenecks in testing.
“He accomplished this all while ensuring the day to day work continued to move forward,” said Steve Merch, C&T director of the Supplier Operations Division.
“It’s always nice to be recognized for your work efforts, and I try to return the favor to the employees under my supervision all the time,” Twardziak added. “We are all trying to do our job as best as we can to support the warfighter.”
