BATTLE CREEK, Mich –
Army Col. Wayne Bondy said farewell to his role as DLA Disposition Services’ deputy director in July as he prepares for a headquarters role in the Defense Logistics Agency.
Bondy has served in Michigan since 2015 and his orders will take him to Fort Belvoir, Virginia. While this will be his first tour at Fort Belvoir, it will be his third with the agency. His first tour was spent with DLA Distribution at Anniston, Alabama, a few years before coming to Battle Creek.
When he received orders to Battle Creek, Bondy said he thought, “I’m going home.”
“I grew up in Michigan and was planning on retiring when I hit 30 years,” Bondy said, but then DLA Disposition Services Director Mike Cannon asked him to stay an additional year.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better deputy,” Cannon said. “He’s been a great teammate who has complemented me and the chief of staff well. Having him here for so long was crucial to us establishing some lasting improvements.”
Cannon said Bondy’s list of accomplishments is long. One that stands out most is how Bondy cultivated positive relationships with the services at the highest levels.
“Our outstanding reputation with the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard is a testament to this,” Cannon said.
A few weeks ago, Bondy said he and the director reflected on achievements the sub-command had accomplished over the past five years.
“The list grew to over 45 significant improvements,” Bondy said “The credit is directly attributed to the great men and women of this agency that carried out our intent and desire to make this agency better.”
To the DLA Disposition Services team around the world, Bondy said, “Thank you for the best five years that I have had in my 32-plus years of service. Work hard, play hard – and, most importantly – take care of one another.”
