Name: Ryan McGuire

Organization: DLA Aviation at Ogden

Years of Service: 11

What is your job title, and what do you do, specifically? I’m a business process analyst, I train employees on DLA systems and processes through instructor led classes, providing training in individual work areas, via network share drive and one-on-one training via Skype, an application that allows for video chatting and voice calls on computers, tablets, mobile devices. I help customer and material support specialists, as well as customer support technicians resolve issues and problems that cannot be resolved within their work areas. I receive requests via Daily Workload Utility and Business process Support Directorate workflow to complete higher level or more difficult transactions and processes that also cannot be worked within the work areas.

What do you like most about your job? I like the problem-solving aspect, as well as helping others and working side-by-side with my outstanding co-workers and supervisors.

What kind(s) of training and education helps your work performance in your current role? The best training comes from written guidance and visual aids as well as from co-workers, supervisors and employees within the work areas who encounter issues and bring it to our attention to figure out and establish processes.

As a BPA, how has your workload been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic? My workload has remained steady throughout the pandemic.

What have been the challenges? Because of the pandemic, training has to be provided either via SKYPE or teleconference and, in most cases, on an individual basis rather than being able to train 20 employees at once. While a lot of employees seem to enjoy and benefit from this approach, but it’s significantly more work for my office.

If you could speak directly to the warfighters you support, what would you tell them? That we will continue to do our very best to provide support to them as well as to provide the best training and guidance possible to the employees who are more directly supporting them. I would also tell them how much their sacrifices and efforts are appreciated.

What advice would you have given yourself 10 years ago? Not a lot. I believe long and difficult paths build resiliency and character in men and women and help us to have a better understanding of others and uncommon situations. I guess I would tell myself to try to stay away from negativity more.

Where do you see yourself five years from now? Exactly where I am today. I think this job requires some real commitment and time to be an outstanding BPA. I like where I am and feel like the opportunity to expand and improve the high level of support we provide will be a challenge and that the opportunity to grow and improve are limitless, both individually and as a group.

What is/are your favorite book(s), television show(s) or movie(s)? I really don’t read many books, but my favorite TV shows are: "Rules of Engagement," "Anger Management," "The Dr. Oz Show," and "Gunsmoke." My favorite movies are "Pandorum," "Game of Thrones," "The Departed," "Frailty," "Star Wars Episodes 1-3," "Major Payne," "The Good the Bad and the Ugly," "Braveheart," "Gladiator" and "Book of Eli."

What are some of your passions outside of work? I love playing cornhole, fishing, hunting and all the other sports I used to play and coach.

What is your favorite military aircraft and why? The Air Force A-10. I dig the oldies and its one bad aircraft!!!!
