What the Holidays Mean to Me: Katie Krefft

DLA Aviation Public Affairs

Name: Katie Krefft

Organization: DLA Aviation at San Diego

What is your job title, and what do you do, specifically? I am a customer support technician. I help manage the Production Control Center report with our priority material for the Canopy Shop. I research and work with our Defense Logistics Aviation San Diego team, Fleet Readiness Center Southwest, also in San Diego and vendors to expedite orders so the material will get to our customers as soon as possible.

What do the holidays mean to you? The holidays are a time to relax and enjoy extra time with family and friends. It involves eating, drinking and being merry. Our family sings, plays music, dances and plays games. I love the holidays. This year will be different, and our entire family won’t have our usual potluck, but I will enjoy time with my immediate family and maybe call the rest of the family.

What are your fondest holiday memories? My fondest holiday memories are of being a kid and hanging with the family. All the good food, singing, playing games and handing out gifts to everyone. We don’t exchange gifts as much as when most of us “kids” were younger, but it was always fun to help out as an “ELF.” I also love being the host, so I have fond memories of coming up with creative games for the family.

What is your favorite holiday tradition? My favorite tradition is of course the potluck and eating the variety of foods we all bring, but also the singing, dancing and game playing. There is so much silliness and laughter to be had with those activities. We love playing poker and Mahjong.

Name your favorite holiday song and why it’s your favorite I have so many favorite holiday songs! Two of them are “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree,” by Amy Grant and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” by the Jackson 5. These are just some of my favorites because my mom and I would play all of our favorite songs while we decorated the Christmas tree together. It was just something special my mom and I did together. The tree always turned out so beautiful!
