Defense Logistics Agency Installation Management Susquehanna Security and Emergency Services team has begun what it’s termed “April Prepareathon.”
Every week in April, the Emergency Management team will provide a topic to assist employees with preparing for disasters and other emergencies. This week’s topic is flooding.
“Prepareathon was developed to motivate everyone to act and to prepare for disasters that may affect their communities,” stated Rick Zucchero, installation emergency manager, in an email sent out to installation employees.
Zucchero shared the following information regarding floods and how to prepare for one of the United States’ most common natural disasters:
- Flooding is a primary hazard for local counties
- May develop slowly or quickly. Flash floods can occur with no warning
- Locally stream flooding occurs a few times a year
- Area roads around the Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna may flood – “Turn around don’t drown” Never walk or drive through flooded waters
- Failing to evacuate flooded areas or entering flooded waters can lead to injury or death
