Defense Logistics Agency Indo-Pacific, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, bid farewell to Chief of Staff John Hamilton August 11, 2021.  DLA Indo-Pacific Commander, Navy Capt. Jason Adams honored Hamilton for his various accomplishments over the past decade.

During his tenure as CoS from August 2011 – August 2021, he integrated over 1,400 employees dispersed over DLA Indo-Pacific vast area of responsibility.  He served as the principal advisor to the commander for administration of financial, human resources, administration, communications, safety and occupational health, operations research, security and intelligence and logistics analytical studies. He also served as both the CoS and Deputy Commander as the enterprise worked to fill the Deputy position in light of the incumbent’s retirement.

He stayed relevant in Agency business and ensured DLA Indo-Pacific coordinated in all regional operations in the areas of Strategic Planning, Enterprise Integration, Agency Governance, Equal Employment Opportunities, Strategic Communications, Legislative Affairs, Installation Support, Intelligence and Security, Regional front office staff management and protocol. Simply put, Hamilton’s care, foresight, skill, and leadership allowed DLA Indo-Pacific to successfully support the Combatant Commander through this dynamic change management period in the Agency’s history.

“His assignment as the Chief of Staff has been performed flawlessly and highlights the brilliant and outstanding support he will continue to provide in his new role as the Indo-Pacific Director for Installation Management,” Capt. Adams said. Hamilton departs the CoS position proud of the legacy of the professionalism and distinguished record of performance which he will take with him as the new Site Director for DLA Installation Management Indo-Pacific.

When asked if he could encapsulate the past decade into a couple of sentences, John said, “I think people believe who they are now is who they will be in 10 years.  I thought just that when I joined DLA in 2011.  However, life is a process of growing and changing; I have done both.  I met some of the most amazing people working for DLA that have and will continue to have a purposeful impact in my life.  They taught me the importance of remaining ambitious, while believing and moving others toward being equally ambitious, bring value to what you do every day (personally and professionally) and don’t worry if others see or don’t see that value, focus on strengths and continue to build them through continuous learning, enjoy what I do and try and find ways to bring enjoyment to others, and lastly, never stop caring about doing the right thing all the time.”

Hamilton will be transferring to DLA Installation Management on August 15, 2021 as the new Site Director for the Indo-Pacific Office. His selection also comes with a promotion to GS15. Bravo Zulu, John Hamilton and fair winds and following seas on your new endeavor.
