BATTLE CREEK, Mich. –
Tina Lilly
Management and Program Analyst
Battle Creek, Michigan
Describe your job in a sentence or two. What do you do specifically? The two main programs I manage are Department of Defense Performance Management Appraisal Program and Defense Logistics Agency Awards and Recognitions Program.
How long have you worked for the federal government including military service? 26 years
How long have you worked for DLA Disposition Services? 18 years
What is your favorite memory with DLA Disposition Services? Deploying as volunteer for 6 months in 2011 to Kuwait and Iraq. The experience was incredible! I never thought I would get the chance to see other countries and cultures in person. Working at an outside continental United Sates field site gave me a whole new appreciation for what our field employees do and the military.
What aspect of your current job gives you the most personal satisfaction and why? I love providing great customer service. I enjoy owning a program, becoming the subject-matter expert, and supporting employees and supervisors at all levels with information and guidance. Creating and providing training to help employees understand the process gives me great satisfaction.
What is the best piece of advice someone has given you? Just because someone thinks differently than I do, does not mean they are wrong – or that I am right. Things don’t have to be done my way, as long as the end result supports the mission and meets the intent.
What would you say has been your major contributions to your organization this year in your job? Assisting supervisors and employees with DPMAP, correcting issues in the process to meet DOD and DLA requirements. DLA has recognized that Disposition Services is leading the way with DPMAP and has asked us to explain the process we have in place in order to better the program DLA wide.
If you could speak directly to the warfighters you support, what would you tell them? I would let them know how much I appreciate everything they do and the sacrifices they make. It takes special people to do what they do.
Where do you see yourself five years from now? Hopefully retired and spending more time crafting, with friends, and traveling.
Tell us something that most people might not know about your directorate? The mission in Resource Management Directorate touches every single employee in DLA Disposition Services. We manage billets, training, personnel actions, expeditionary employees and deployments, performance management, retirements, awards, military personnel, funding, planning and many other programs that affect the whole agency.
What was your first job? I started government service as a GS-03 Clerk Typist in 1998.
What is the most recent book(s) you have read? I’m currently reading “Girl in the Box” series, 41 books in the series by author Robert J. Crane. The books contain a great mix of powers, supernatural, adventure, suspense and the struggle of good vs evil.
What are some of your passions outside of work? Reading fiction with magical storylines, making crafts of all kinds, going to flea markets and antique stores, and spending time with my good friends.
What is your favorite quote? “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” - Aesop
What did you want to be when you grew up? A teacher or secretary to someone important. I often played teacher and secretary as a kid.
If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be? Go back in time and spend a day with Prince Rogers Nelson.
What’s the most thrilling/adventurous thing you have ever done? Deployed to Kuwait and Iraq for six months.
