Magee assumes command of DLA at Oklahoma City

By Natalie Skelton, DLA Aviation Public Affairs

Air Force Col. Robert Magee took command of Defense Logistics Agency Aviation at Oklahoma City July 26 during an assumption of command ceremony held at the Tinker Event Center on Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma.

DLA Aviation Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. Sean Tyler presided over the ceremony, beginning his remarks by thanking distinguished guests, family and friends for attending.

Tyler welcomed Magee to the team, challenging him to  build upon the previous commander’s success and make OKC even better than when he found it.

“Taking command is not only an honor and privilege, but a tremendous responsibility as well. Trust in your leadership, respecting your peers, mentoring your subordinates and fully supporting your team to allow them to do their jobs to the best of their ability, day in and day out.” Tyler said. “Remember the warfighter always, because they are the reason we exist, we are trusted mission partners, and our customers count on us to deliver our promises on time."

After receiving the organizational flag, Magee took the stage and delivered a hearty message to his new organization.

“"People matter" are the two most important words in my career. They made me a better airman, a better father, a better friend, a better teammate … and a better leader. If you're looking to figure out what my command philosophy  is you don't need a pen or paper, it is those two words that guide me like they guide all of us,” said Magee.

“For over six decades, DLA has established a strong reputation for being our nations combat logistics support agency. The foundation is set. We'll continue to build on its architecture by making people matter based on a passion to care while ensuring every member is inspired to continue to make this organization, their teammates and the mission better." Magee said.

Magee previously served as a Deputy Director of Sustainment, U.S Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Florida. In this role, he led 130 joint logisticians, engineers, and contracting officers in support of 38 special operations platforms spread throughout 21 countries within the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. The directorate is responsible for executing a sustainment network that provides theater-wide logistics support to U.S. and coalition counterterrorism, counterdrug, and crisis response forces in support of U.S Special Operations Command, USCENTCOM, MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Florida, and Secretary of Defense level policy, strategy, and operations.

Magee serves as the single DLA face to the customer for all Tinker Air Force Base DLA organizations. He is responsible for retail-level supply, storage and distribution support to the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex, which includes over 600,000 customer orders annually.

Oklahoma City is one of 19 stateside locations within DLA Aviation l that support more than 2,000 major weapon systems and is the U.S. military’s integrated materiel manager for more than 1.2 million repair parts and operating supply items in support of all fixed- and rotor-wing aircraft.
