TRACY, Calif. –
Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Europe, in conjunction with DLA Troop Support Europe and Africa, arranged critical material in support of the humanitarian crisis in Turkey within 5 hours of receiving the order on Feb. 10.
“An urgent order was placed for critical Class IV material. DDDE was able to pick, pack, and load an outbound truck within 5 hours,” Neil Flanagan, the Deputy Commander for DDDE said.
The 519th Hospital Center at Rhine Ordnance Barracks, based in Kaiserslautern, Germany, needed the Class IV materials, which mainly comprised of construction supplies, to be prepared for an airlift into Turkey.
DDDE’s normal processing for local delivery orders is to pick and pack within 24 hours; the DDDE team was able to secure an extra truck, pick, pack, load and ship cargo hours ahead of the requirement due to the emergent need.
“The collective teamwork and devotion of our personnel in support of eleven Class IV orders is nothing short of outstanding,” said Reah Andrews, operations chief at DDDE. “Remaining flexible and accommodating pressing needs requires active engagement and execution at all levels.”
While DLA Distribution’s main mission is to provide agile, global storage and distribution services to enable readiness and lethality to the Warfighter and support Whole of Government efforts, DLA Distribution teams often assist with humanitarian efforts around the globe.
