San Diego personnel get a firsthand look at supporting the USS Boxer

By Leon Moore, Acting Chief of Public Affairs DLA Aviation Public Affairs Office

Defense Logistics Agency Aviation at San Diego partnered with personnel onboard the USS Boxer (LHD-4), a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship homeported in San Diego, California, in a cross-collaborative effort to enhance teamwork and business culture through an “End Game” perspective and paradigm.

Aviation leadership at San Diego determined employees would benefit from getting a better understanding of the support DLA Aviation provides to the Navy customer. To make this a reality, Boxer personnel gave tours of the ship to these employees Feb. 21 and 27th.

The Boxer tours were a show of gratitude after DLA Aviation at San Diego Deputy Director Emil “Charlie” Haury conducted a supply logistics workshop at Fleet Readiness Center Southwest at the request of Navy Cmdr. Maxine Gardner, who previously served as the officer-in-charge of DLA Aviation at San Diego. She now serves as the supply officer onboard the Boxer.

“This endeavor proved to be a success based on positive feedback we received from all who participated,” Haury said.

DLA Aviation is the aviation demand and supply manager for Defense Logistics Agency with more than 4,000 civilian and military personnel in 20 locations across the United States supporting more than 1,879 major weapon systems.
