NEW CUMBERLAND, PA. –
DLA Distribution Teammates,
This year, the Holocaust Days of Remembrance week will be observed from April 16th – April 23rd. The theme for this year’s remembrance is, “Home and Belonging.” The theme highlights the humanity of Holocaust victims and survivors who lost their homes and sense of belonging during the atrocious Holocaust.
As Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor, said in his Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech on December 10, 1986, “I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”
To guide us in remembering the victims of the Holocaust, DLA Distribution EEO has created the Holocaust Days of Remembrance newsletter. The newsletter highlights interesting facts about the Holocaust, including the genocide of other populations — including Roma, Poles, Ukrainians, Soviet civilians, and prisoners of war, as well as Jehovah’s Witnesses, Black Germans, disabled people, communists, and homosexuals.
This month, as we somberly observe the Holocaust, please take the time to read the attached information and remember Elie Wisel’s plea to never be a silent witness to the suffering and humiliation of others.
I, along with Mr. Knight, thank you and your families for all you do to support the organization, our Warfighters, and our great Nation.
