Richmond, Va. –
The Defense Logistics Agency Installation Management team celebrated the opening of a new office administration area Mar. 6 in Bldg. 2121 on Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma. The section had not been updated in more than 45 years, and it now boasts brighter, modern looks with essential equipment for day-to-day operations.
Samuel “Carl” Eggleston, chief of the Material Management Division within DLA Aviation at Oklahoma City, said the renovations in Bldg. 2121 and Bldg. 9001 are a reflection of the organization’s motto: "I promise to take care of our people so they can take care of our customers."
Eggleston said upkeep, upgrades and additions are often long endeavors, but thanks to the dedication of employees like Facility Operations Specialist Doug Moore and Management Analyst April Walker, major projects are coming to fruition on an expedited timeline.
Moore noted that Building 2121 renovations began in August 2021, and the work was not without its obstacles.
"We had significant challenges, to include supply chain issues, asbestos-containing floor tile mastic, and water intrusion due to a collapsing roof drain," Moore said.
Despite the hiccups, the facility now boasts a more open floor plan where employees are no longer separated from one another.
Because the building was originally an unconditioned facility, Moore said a new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system was installed to accommodate weather extremes. Renovations also include a new type of flooring material that will be used as a model for future renovations.
The celebration of facility upgrades continued Apr. 10 with a ribbon cutting for additional restroom facilities in Building 9001, the former GM plant. Eggleston said the facility supports every Maintenance Group on Tinker; 109 employees work here.
"This is a significant quality of life project due to the nearest restroom for our employees being approximately one-eighth of a mile away," Moore explained. The new restrooms double current capacity, and they will be available immediately following the ribbon cutting.
Eggleston added, "It has taken effort, patience and plain old grit from all of our employees to see these projects through. The end result will improve our people's quality of life for years to come."
