Overseas deployment opportunities available

By Nancy Benecki DLA Public Affairs

Employees looking for a unique way to support the warfighter can apply for a deployment opportunity with the Defense Logistics Agency’s Support Team or Liaison Team.

Jobs are available for 2023 and 2024. The selected employees will remain in their current position and duty station until they are scheduled to deploy.

Deploying can be a strategic career move, said Air Force Lt. Col. Christopher Simmons, chief of DLA’s Deployment Operations.

“It provides an overarching, wide vision of all of DLA’s capabilities that we provide to the warfighters. It is a very tangible return on effort. You get to hear from the warfighter more directly than you would if you were sitting back in a workstation,” Simmons said.

The experience gained and training necessary for deployment may lead to new career opportunities after returning, he added.

Deployment also helps employees broaden their understanding of what DLA offers, Simmons said.

“The deployed workers are the face of DLA. They are the ones proving and showing the warfighter what DLA is,” he said.

Positions may be filled at one grade above or below, but employees will remain in their current grade and series. Individuals will be required to complete several online courses, as well as go through pre-deployment training and medical processing.

Incentives include overtime opportunities, a 40-hour time-off award upon tour completion, compensatory time off for travel, and an end-of-tour monetary award for $3,500 or $7,500.

There are about 65 deployment billets ranging from six months to a year or more, Simmons said.

While the opportunities below are open to DLA Headquarters employees, those at the MSCs should reach out to their respective force provider office to learn about MSC opportunities, Simmons said.
