Disposition Services joining forces with Document Services

By Jason Shamberger Disposition Services

The Defense Logistics Agency is undergoing a significant organizational change as DLA Disposition Services takes on operational control of DLA Document Services – previously falling under Information Operations.

DLA Director Navy Vice Adm. Michelle Skubic signed an action memo realigning Document Services to Disposition Services after evaluating the missions of each organization and determining they align in multiple facets warranting this change.

“It made sense to align us,” said Disposition Services Director Mike Cannon. “Especially, when you look at how we're organized and how we both have an outward mission. Document Services is about one of the only parts of DLA that actually makes a product. Most of DLA buys products and distributes them so I’m excited about this opportunity.”

Document Services Director Richard TeBeau addressed an audience during the most recent Director’s Call in the Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center in Battle Creek, Michigan, and introduced their mission to those unfamiliar while echoing Cannon’s sentiments.

“If you can imagine it, we can print it. Everything from vehicle wraps, to targets, to wall displays and murals,” TeBeau said. “When we talk about joining forces with Disposition Services, we're in a lot of same locations, we service a lot of the same customers, and we're both outward facing – so that's why it made sense for us to be able to join forces.”

At this time the realignment plan will not impact any employee’s current working conditions, mission or work unit name. Support functions such as facilities and financial oversight will combine to better support each organization’s infrastructure.

This represents an organizational change for Document Services but certainly not a change in mission, as they are still supporting their primary customer day-to-day and around the world.

“At the end of the day, it’s about Warfighter Always,” TeBeau said. “That’s why we at DLA exist, is to serve the warfighter so we always have to put that in our mindset as we go about our business.”

The release of a General Order is expected during the 2023 calendar year finalizing this realignment. Until its release, Information Operations continues providing administrative support to Document Services during this “as is-where is” operational alignment.
