NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
Brig. Gen. Frederick Crist, Commanding General, 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, toured Defense Logistics Agency Distribution, Korea, Jan 5.
Upon arrival Crist was taken into the new warehouse building and provided an operational and administrative overview of DLA Distribution Korea by the command team.
DLA U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Deputy Commander of Operations, Col. Brian Donahue, also attended with warfighter support representatives from Eighth Army and 19th ESC. The briefing provided an overview of DDDK facilities on Camp Carroll, the chain of command hierarchy, DDDK concept of support, how operations are funded, and how DDDK ties into the overarching DLA Distribution global support plan.
Crist was very impressed with the equipment and the modernization ongoing at the site, such as the government furnished and installed improvements, and the future of DLA Distribution sustainment automation. Crist stressed the importance of continued integration of his staff and DDDK to enable better understanding of the support capabilities DDDK can provide.\
He emphasized the brief was very informative, and his desire to build relationships with the Major Subordinate Commands on the Korean peninsula to understand how DDDK and DLA operates. He also expressed his appreciation of the logistical support and partnership with DDDK, DLA INDOPACOM, and the support provided to the Warfighter.
Upon completion of the brief, Brig. Gen. Crist toured the administrative offices, and the emergency operations center hubs. The biggest take-away was how the operational space and general layout improves DDDK capabilities over the current footprint.
Other capabilities Crist was able to view were the palletized racks, package racks, the vertical lift modules, map section, conveyor system, pilferable cage, and the new material handling equipment capabilities.
Crist stated he’d like his leadership and staff to visit DDDK, especially when the warehouse is fully operation capable later in the year. At the culmination of the tour, So Chin Ho, theater consolidation shipping point supervisor, provided a quick demonstration of the Swing-Master material handling equipment, and was presented with a 19th ESC Commanding General coin.
Other areas of the tour included the on-going bulk storage operations, more of the conveyor system, the HAZMAT storage facility, and the 463L stacking and unloading conveyor.
Following the completion of the new facility tour, Crist was taken to our current operation facility. He was shown the space of current TCSP, receiving, storage, preservation, packaging, packing and marking sections.
Crist was able to see DDDK’s current footprint, our SSA RIC lanes, storage capabilities, and saw our TCSP employees providing break-bulk support in real-time. He was amazed at the speed and the efficiency of the DLA employees on the tracking of arriving material and preparing the outgoing cargo for the next duty day. Closing out the tour, Crist provided additional unit coins to members of the team and took a group photo.
