A good time had by all during Jacksonville team building BBQ

By United States Coast Guard Lt. Candis Alford, Operations Officer, DLA Aviation at Jacksonville DLA Aviation at Jacksonville

Defense Logistics Agency Aviation at Jacksonville held a command picnic at Fisherman’s Cove Pavilion on Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida, May 18.  DLA Aviation employees and their families, along with DLA Distribution and DLA Disposition, enjoyed good food, music, and overall camaraderie during this year’s team building event dubbed Spring BBQ 2023.

“The value of team building cannot be overstated. Our mission is uniquely tied to the defense of our nation, and it is increasingly important we work together across agencies and services to optimize our efforts.” Officer-in-Charge Navy Cmdr. Brandon Palmer said. “Events like this may seem inconsequential, but they pay huge dividends in building trust, improving communication, and increasing productivity.”

The highlights of the event were a bounce house and dunk tank, where employees took turns at a chance to sink a few DLA Aviation at Jacksonville senior leaders, including Palmer, Deputy Director David Scalf and Navy F/A-18 hornet jet Supervisor Team Chief Phil Smith.

Another highlight of the event was an intense cornhole tournament where four, two-person teams went head-to-head, competing for the title. In the end, this year’s championship trophy and bragging rights went to Aviation Supervisor Noel Magsakay and Customer Support Specialist James Disalvo.

“Regardless of which part of DLA affiliation employees belonged to, in Jacksonville, DLA is one crew working together to achieve one mission. Social events outside of the workplace such as command picnics help reinforce this concept. We are all a part of the Defense Logistics Agency family,” Said Palmer.
