Ogden’s “Mr. Fitness” proves age is just a number

By Leon Moore, Acting Chief of Public Affairs DLA Aviation Public Affairs Office

At first glance, you would never guess Terry Baldwin, with his chiseled frame, is not some sort of comic book superhero.

Baldwin, a retail accountable officer with Defense Logistics Agency Aviation at Ogden on Hill Air Force Base, Utah, recently competed in the annual FitCon Utah 2023 International Powerlifting League competition held in Sandy, Utah May 12-13.

During this competition, Baldwin broke Utah, national, and world records four times in the deadlift for the Master’s 5, 60–64-year-old division, 242-pound weight class. This gives him a total of seven world, six national, and seven Utah powerlifting records. He also won “best lifter” in the Master’s 5 class.

The retired Marine, whose worked at Aviation at Ogden since 2016, says he began powerlifting more than three decades ago, but the results from his first competition in 1989 were nothing to write home about. As a matter of fact, quite the opposite.

“I only weighed 154 pounds at the time and finished in last place,” Baldwin said.

Over the years, Baldwin has put in hard work and dedication, developing his Zeus-like strength which has enabled him to compete in various powerlifting competitions, some as far away as Japan.

Baldwin said he doesn’t plan on slowing down any time soon.

“I will continue as long as my body and mind allow me. Age is just a number. I want to leave a legacy for my family and friends to remember that I accomplished my dreams and that they can too.” Baldwin said.
