Call open for nominations for annual awards program

By Beth Reece

Nominations are being accepted through Aug. 11 for the Defense Logistics Agency’s 56th Annual Employee Recognition Program.

The awards recognize achievements and contributions of individuals and teams performing diverse missions throughout the enterprise. The program traditionally draws hundreds of nominations and stiff competition in some categories, said DLA Human Resources Director Sharyn Saunders.

“As every year, we encourage supervisors to look across their staffs and consider those employees who’ve contributed significantly to the overall DLA mission and helped improve the quality of our organization,” she said. “We have some incredibly talented and giving employees who deserve to be honored, and this is an opportunity for us to recognize them in a public way.”

Each DLA Headquarters directorate and major subordinate command may submit one nomination for each level in seven categories. Nominations must be vetted at local levels to ensure nominees have demonstrated integrity and high ethical standards throughout their DLA careers, according to DLA Human Resources instructions that include rules and nomination formats.

The time of performance for each category varies. Nominees for Outstanding DLA Personnel of the Year, for example, must have conducted the work from June 1, 2022, through May 31, 2023, while Acquisition Excellence Awards are for work done during fiscal 2023.

Awards will be selected by the DLA Awards Review Board with final approval by the DLA director. The presentation ceremony is scheduled for Jan. 25, 2024, at the McNamara Headquarters Complex at Fort Belvoir.
