RICHMOND, Va. –
The National Fire Protection Association recommends that smoke alarms are activated monthly to ensure that they function as intended.
The bi-annual fire safety campaign "Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery" promotes the need to have working smoke alarms that will give an important early warning signal in the event of a fire.
Remember that fire will not wait. We must always plan our escape. Stay low and crawl under the smoke. Choose an outdoor meeting location. Once you're outside, stay outside.
Smoke alarms save lives!
