Year in Review: Resource Management

By Jeff Landenberger DLA Disposition Services

Every successful organization relies on a team that makes it go, and important aspects of that work take place behind the scenes. For Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services, the Resource Management directorate plays a key supporting role.

Resource Management had “a good year,” according to Director Chris Judd, who said that RM directorate work was integral in every part of the sub-command’s day-to-day mission in 2023.

Both are training for possible deployments with DLA Disposition Services to support military units in forward deployed locations around the world.

"This year, our focus has shifted towards the Expeditionary Force Reset initiative,” Judd said, referring to the reallocation of assets from the traditional CENTCOM area of operations to potential hot spots for future contingencies. “My planners are very busy looking on how to prepare for when our services are needed elsewhere.”

He said a big part of that planning involves ensuring that DLA Disposition Services has the right people with the right training ready to deploy when the need arises. To that end, training the workforce for possible deployments took up a great deal of effort.

“Our team has been focusing on Block One training, or ‘Back to Basics,’ everyone gets that training,” Judd said. “Now we are targeting Block Two and Three,” Judd said. The second and third blocks are expected to present material more specific to individual job series and positions.

In the past, Judd said the training offered for some job positions varied from one sub-command region to another. The is to have standardized training for specific job series so everyone in that series gets the same training no matter where they work.

Another focus – service-level billing – is how DLA Disposition Services receives reimbursement from the armed services for the support the agency provides warfighters. Judd said that some of those agreements expired and needed to be renewed, while others needed to be paid. As the year comes to an end, Judd said the RM team has secured more than $12 million in reimbursements through the process, which is “crucial” for ongoing operations.

"Looking forward, our concentration will be on Block Two and Three, and we aim to continue expanding our Service-Level Bill agreements with other customers,” Judd said. “These initiatives are all part of our commitment to support DLA Disposition Services and ensure we're well-prepared for the challenges ahead."
