NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Supply Management Specialist Domon Barr was recognized on Veterans Day for his outstanding volunteer service supporting veterans and their families.
The award ceremony took place at the United States Army Heritage and Education Center, at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. Commandant of the US Army War College, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. David Hill, presented Barr with an award as well as his Commandant’s coin.
Outside of his government job, Barr manages a food distribution program for veterans and their families based out of Middletown, Pennsylvania, which takes place the first Friday of each month.
His program initially provided meals to 23 families and has grown to serving 126 families. Barr started the food service program in 2019 and doesn’t have any intentions of slowing down.
“I will keep going as long as I can sustain, it’s a joy knowing I can make a difference in someone else’s life.” stated Barr.
Barr served a combined 25 years in the military between the Air Force and the Army before retiring. He started his federal civilian career with DLA in 2007 as a materials handler and worked his way up to his present position which he obtained in 2014.
Barr is also an active member of the Blacks in Government organization, which works to promote equity in all aspects of American life, excellence in public service and opportunity for all Americans. BIG is primarily a volunteer membership-driven association that functions as an employee support group, community resource and an advocacy group.
When asked why he continues to serve Barr replied. “The yearning to serve and continue to serve in this capacity is something that found me, I didn’t find it.”
