PHILADELPHIA –
An inventory management specialist in the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support’s Clothing and Textiles supply chain, received the Leadership Category award from the Federal Executive Board on May 14 at DLA Troop Support Headquarters in Philadelphia.
Ligia Perkins was honored for being an outstanding team lead and for her success of supporting several DLA Troop Support high visibility initiatives.
While the official FEB Excellence in Government Awards was held earlier this month, FEB Eastern Region Director Steve Millen made a special visit to DLA Troop Support to present Perkins with her trophy.
“The leadership category in excellence in government is a pivotal category for celebrating federal employees,” Millen said. "It is my pleasure to take the time out of my day to come here and present this award to Ligia.”
Perkins works on the C&T Organizational Clothing and Individual Equipment Planning Division team and was nominated for the award by her supervisor Jorge Valentin Torres, who says Perkins is so deserving of this recognition.
“I believe that every hard-working employee who makes a difference in any agency should be honored for their dedication and commitment to the nation,” Torres said. “Ligia is one of those employees who truly made a difference to the Clothing and Textiles Planning Division.”
Perkins said her dedication to the warfighter stems from her own deployment in the Army.
“My favorite thing is the feeling of paying it forward to the warfighter,” she said. “Planning and fulfilling their needs is like a small token of appreciation for what they do. I served seven years of active duty in the Army. I’ve been in their shoes, so I know what is like to be on the receiving end. It’s really an honor to be a part of this great team.”
Each year during Public Service Recognition Week, FEBs nationwide recognize high-performing federal employees in their local communities and highlight innovative efforts that advance their respective agency’s missions.
Perkins is not the only award winner from DLA Troop Support.
Out of 15 Philadelphia Federal Agencies and 75 nominations submitted, DLA Troop Support won three gold medals and one bronze medals in the 11 award categories.
