Name: Camron Murphy
Organization: DLA Aviation at Ogden, Utah
DLA experience: 4 years
Job title: Inventory Management Specialist
What do you do? Provide direct and immediate support to warfighter sustainability and weapons systems lethality. Identify areas in the government supply chain that require attention or that are causing delays on aircraft production maintenance and mitigate customer demands and backorders.
Why did you decide to work for DLA? My dad was with the Air Force for 25 years, and I wanted to be able to be a positive influence in the support and defense of our great nation like he did.
What do you like most about your job? With the amount of research that goes into my daily functions, it’s as if each material has its own backstory, issues and solutions. Each day entails piecing together and completing a new puzzle. It’s so satisfying to look back at the whole process behind getting material to the warfighter in a complex situation.
What is your fondest memory of working for DLA Aviation? Working the swing shift as a material expediter, there was so much uncertainty in my life at that time – I’ve met so many great people I consider dear friends that have helped me, and we’ve created new cherished memories together.
What part of your job gives you the most personal satisfaction? Having the privilege of seeing the airplanes flying overhead every day. It’s easy to get lost with the repetition of doing a job, but it’s constantly refreshing to know that we (DLA) play a large part in providing the readiness to be able to fly.
What are your best practices for achieving goals or accomplishing tasks? Always keep in mind DLA’s goal of providing warfighter lethality. Find your own definition of that. Aircraft do more than fight, they deter aggression and transport life, food and resources.
Professionally, where do you see yourself five years from now? Hopefully with DLA in some sort of supervisory position, as I would really enjoy the opportunity to spread knowledge and be able to create a positive environment for people to thrive and encourage helping each other beyond normal means.
What are some of your passions outside of work? I enjoy spending time with my family, movies, cars, fitness/nutrition, computers, gaming and cooking with my fiancé.
What is the most surprising or unexpected thing others don’t know about you? I know four different languages: English, Spanish, German and American Sign Language.
What is your favorite military aircraft? The F-22 Raptor fighter jet. I’ve seen numerous videos and simulations of a single F-22 being able to neutralize multiple adversaries in a dogfight. Its agility and lethality are a credit to engineering and human capability.
