NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. –
Defense Logistics Agency Installation Management at Susquehanna Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the Riverview Grill at the Riverview Golf Course located on Defense Distribution Center Susquehanna in New Cumberland, Nov. 24.
Joshua Wakefield, general manager, Riverview Golf Course, opened the ceremony and gave an overview of the impact this service will have on the installation community.
“Our entire FMWR community has made a significant investment in improving the quality of life of our members,” Wakefield said. “This highlights our commitment to providing top notch recreational facilities and services that contribute readiness for our entire community.”
Rob Montefour, site director, DLA Installation Management at Susquehanna, provided a historical context for the transformation of the Riverview Grill.
“The golf course was established here in the late 1950s, and then this building we’re standing in is from 1964,” Montefour said. “In the early days, this was a hot spot. There was a line out the door every day.”
Due to funding issues and operational changes, food operations ceased at the grill in 2013. However, through the work of the FMWR team, they developed a business plan to renovate the building and bring food services back to the Riverview Golf Course.
“I just want to thank my FMWR team who kept the dedication and the passion to get the food services back in here,” Montefour said. “It’s been sought after for a long time, and we’re excited to celebrate your success.”
Navy Capt. Andy Henwood, installation commander and commander, DLA Distribution Susquehanna, emphasized how this service will benefit the entire installation community as operations increase and modernization efforts continue to be underway.
“This place looks fantastic, and it’s great to continue to build the military community here,” Henwood said. “In the future years, warehousing will continue pick up, so I think the customer base is here and will be here in the future.”
Henwood, Montefour and Wakefield joined Dana Spalding, director, FMWR Susquehanna, Jennifer Isbill, chief of business and recreation, FMWR Susquehanna, and Timothy Michael, food concession provider to ceremoniously cut the ribbon and officially open the doors of the Riverview Grill.
The Riverview Grill is located in building 300 at 5300 A Avenue, New Cumberland, and is open to the public Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
