Carol Roddy, transportation management specialist at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution San Diego, Calif., has been awarded the Global Distribution Excellence: Transportation Management Senior Civilian of the Year for her expertise in transportation policy, attention to detail and outstanding customer service.

The resident expert of the SYNCADA Transportation Billing System, Roddy promptly reconciled over $5.3 million in U.S. Bank yearly freight and small parcel payments, without incurring late payment penalties. She also implemented the new carrier appointment system at Naval Base Coronado which resulted in more effective and efficient deliveries into base receiving.

“Carol’s attention to detail and commitment to DLA policies have directly impacted our global customers’ readiness,” said DLA Distribution San Diego deputy director Mark Patzman.

With her creation of a standard operating procedure for shipment of weapons, Roddy mitigated weapons shipment challenges resulting in reduced customer wait time and delay of shipments. Additionally, she is the central point of contact for resolving requests for payment issues allowing the Warfighters to receive their materials expeditiously and vendors to get paid promptly.

Roddy collaborated with Military Sealift Command Pacific, Menlo and Marine Unit HM-14 to offload 18 truckloads of materials from the USS Anchorage for shipment back to Jacksonville, Fla. These efforts enabled deploying units to meet their material requirements in short order. “Carol’s transportation planning, truck scheduling coordination and Marine deployment knowledge and experience made this effort a huge success,” said Patzman.
