Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Oklahoma City, Okla., has been awarded the Global Distribution Excellence: MG Kenneth L. Privratsky Award for Distribution Center Excellence for its support to DLA Distribution’s mission, effective and efficient use of resources and quality working conditions.

The team improved customer support by reducing Z to A time from approximately three days to two days, a 32 percent reduction. Z to A time measures the time that elapses between when an Air Force craftsman repairs a component, and DLA processes a receipt, which updates the serviceable balance within the Distribution Standard System.

“Our team exceeded our on-time delivery goal of 85 percent by more than four percent,” said DLA Distribution Oklahoma City, Okla., director Ned LaViolette. “Additionally we exceeded the 24 hour goal by 25 percent.”

Utilizing good stewardship the team avoided a loss of $800,000 by salvaging and reutilizing 42 percent of the tools the Air Force was turning into DLA Disposition. By deploying 16 additional tool boxes of reutilized tools throughout the packing branch, they were able to increase the operational workstations by 40 percent. This initiative resulted in a 20 percent increase in productivity.

By supporting DLA Director’s “clean the attic” initiative by picking over 13,000 disposal release orders, over 425,000 assets were shipped to disposal, generating over 12,500 cubic feet of space for reallocation. Fiscal responsibility was key in returning nearly seven percent of the allocated budget to DLA Distribution headquarters.

“Our adherence to mission essential spending has helped save over $700,000 in labor costs,” said LaViolette.

In addition to the work focus, Oklahoma City takes community spirit and quality of life very seriously. The distribution center has provided free on-site cardiac risk profiles screenings for the employees.

“By fostering positive and safe work environments, the 2014 culture climate score improved by 12 percent,” explained LaViolette.

The team embraced the Voluntary Protection Program, leading to a 40 percent drop in material handling equipment incidents. This directly contributed to a less than four percent total case incident rate, which is lower than the established VPP goal of almost six percent.

“Our team’s efforts improved the distribution center’s operation support by continuously exceeding performance goals,” said LaViolette.
