Army’s 6th Medical Logistics Management Center visit DLA Distribution

By Jessica Roman DLA Distribution Public Affairs

To discuss synchronizing medical logistics through planning, supply chain integration, and requirements development, the Army’s 6th Medical Logistics Management Center visited Defense Logistics Agency Distribution on Aug. 28.

The group began at DLA Distribution headquarters with a command overview, highlighting DLA Distribution’s worldwide network, special functions the command provides - such as kitting and hazardous material handling - and transportation coordination that the organization provides for all of DLA.  The group discussion focused on how DLA Distribution supports medical requirements for the warfighter, and how DLA Distribution supports emergency medical requirements through the Expeditionary Team.

Following the overview, Sherre Mitten-Bell, DLA Distribution Susquehanna’s public affairs officer, led the group through the Eastern Distribution Center, the Department of Defense’s largest warehouse.  The 6th MLMC saw the organization’s key locations, including receiving operations, the Consolidation and Containerization Point, the high-rise storage and retrieval system, and the air line of communication pallet build area.

The group also toured DLA Distribution Susquehanna’s medical and cold chain management areas.  DLA Distribution works in conjunction with DLA Troop Support to receive, store, package, and ship vaccines to military services, including civilians, retired military, and their dependents.  The medical area also packages kits for the warfighter, including dental and combat lifesaver.

The 6th MLMC visit was part of DLA Distribution’s ongoing efforts to partner with warfighting customers to provide efficient, effective, and best value support.
