NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania –
Army Staff Sgt. David Lewis, aerial delivery equipment supply supervisor at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Susquehanna, Pa., has been awarded the DLA Distribution Junior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Quarter award for fourth quarter, fiscal year 2015.
“A truly amazing NCO, Sgt. Lewis’ performance has been immeasurable in the management of the aerial delivery section’s mission,” said Army Col. Corey New, commander of the distribution center. Lewis ensures that all assigned systems and equipment valued at over $200,000 are 100 percent mission ready at all times.
Lewis supervises the distribution center’s reimbursable parachute maintenance program, which generates more than $100,000 in repairs from every branch of the military service. He inspected more than 60 cargo parachute systems from two separate units during the reporting period.
Lewis also serves as the facility supply manager, ensuring that equipment needed for airborne parachute pack and maintenance operations are procured, maintained, and accounted for.
Responsible for the Advanced Emergency Bailout Parachute, Lewis inspected and stored this system, valued at more than $2.4 million. He also trained seven other non-commissioned officers in the processing and inspection of the AEBP, ensuring the highest levels of quality control were enforced.
Outside of work, Lewis is very active in his local community. He has logged more than 200 hours of community service at regional veteran’s events, the installation’s Children’s Christmas Party, and the Wreaths Across America program.
“The energy and enthusiasm with which Sgt. Lewis goes about his life are truly remarkable,” said New. “He is always responsible and clearly derives enjoyment from his duties.”
