NATIONAL HARBOR, Maryland –
Defense Logistics Agency Distribution commander Army Brig. Gen. Richard B. Dix, attended the third annual National Defense Transportation Association – U.S. Transportation Command fall meeting at the Gaylord National Harbor Hotel in National Harbor, Md., just outside of Washington, DC, from September 28 through 30.
The theme of the meeting was “Delivering Readiness Amid Risk – Together,” which emphasized the nature of the relationship that exists between the government and military, and their industry partners.
Participating on the panel “Logistics Way Ahead in a Globally Distributed Environment,” moderated by Marine Corps Maj. Gen. John J. Broadmeadow, joint staff deputy director of logistics, Dix was joined by members from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the uniformed services and USTRANSCOM for a round table discussion regarding the anticipated demands, challenges and framework DoD faces when executing globally integrated logistics in support of globally distributed operations.
As a panelist, Dix touched on many topics relating to current demand trends and efforts taken to adjust within the evolving security environment; emerging initiatives and the anticipated impact on supply chain and distribution operations; anticipated demands external to U.S. requirements in support of our allied partners; as well as challenges and initiative in total asset visibility and in-transit visibility in a cyber-compromised environment and the ability to integrate sustainment operations globally.
Additionally, Dix used the opportunity to discuss DLA Distribution’s ability to achieve flexibility, agility and efficiency through their strategic partnership with government and industry.
“We do not execute this distribution alone,” said Dix. “DLA Distribution executes a synchronized and agile network in coordination with the OSD’s Joint Logistics TRIAD of United States Transportation Command, Army Material Command, DLA and our commercial partners. The logistics TRIAD enables us to give efficient, effective and best value support to our strategic customers.”
Finally, Dix took a moment to touch on DLA Distribution’s expeditionary capabilities. “One of DLA Distribution’s greatest attributes that enables our global expeditionary reach is that we are not constrained by combatant command boundaries when we operate.”
