ANNISTON, Alabama –
On Jan. 11, Army Lt. Gen. Larry Wyche, deputy commanding general of Army Material Command, visited Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Anniston, Ala., to discuss small arms operations and the distribution center’s wall-to-wall weapons inventory and item-unique identification labeling.
The small arms facility at Anniston is one of the more unique in the distribution network, where employees receive, identify, send for overhaul, and stow small arms for the warfighter. The team has implemented new standardized processes to improve customer support, as well as save time and money.
Wyche had the opportunity to see some of these processes in action – including quality control procedures and a specialized database created by the division that helps to reliably identify the hundreds of different types of arms they receive.
“DLA is a great partner,” said Wyche, who also noted that he would like to see Anniston Army Depot continue to develop relationships with their DLA partners on the ground, in order to better accomplish their mission.
The distribution center will be conducting a wall-to-wall inventory and labeling of material, consisting of more than one million serialized and non-serialized materials stored in the small arms facilities. This mission will be augmented with more than 130 DLA Distribution employees and reservists from all branches of the armed services. DLA Distribution is conducting wall-to-wall inventories at its distribution centers in preparation for audit readiness assertion later this year.
“We were pleased Lt. Gen. Wyche could take the time to visit us here at Anniston,” said Army Lt. Col. Hattie Richardson, the distribution center’s commander. “We are looking forward to continuing our strong partnership with AMC and all of our customers.”
