NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania –
Former Defense Logistics Agency Distribution commander Army Maj.
Gen. Susan Davidson has been announced as the incoming commanding general, 8th
Theater Sustainment Command, Fort Shafter, Hawaii.
Davidson, currently serving as commanding general, Military
Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.,
commanded DLA Distribution from June 2012 to May 2014.
During her tenure at DLA Distribution, the organization greatly
contributed to reducing the agency’s storage footprint. Faced with a goal of returning 2.3 million
square feet of storage to lower overhead and maintenance costs, DLA
Distribution ultimately turned in over 4.1 million square feet of storage space,
which included the shift of all operations from its Sharpe, Calif., site to
Tracy, Calif..
Additionally, the organization implemented a major
initiative which leveraged government transportation to move materiel to customers. This initiative saved money by combining government
shipments and avoiding individual shipments from single vendors to each
customer.
Under Davidson’s leadership, Distribution provided
humanitarian relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Over 6 million commercial meals, 4,000 cases
of Meals-Ready-to-Eat, 96 unitized group rations, 150,000 blankets, 5,000 cots,
and 24,000 feet of wire, in addition to lighting kits, cables, and flatware, were
delivered to affected areas of the country within days.
