2016 Pennsylvania Golf Season at the Riverview Golf Club

By Dr. Tanya Johnson DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Did you know that the 2016 Pennsylvania Golf Season has started at the Riverview Golf Club in New Cumberland?

Riverview kicked off the season with its first tournament, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, March 18.  The tournament began with lunch and shotgun start was at noon.  Jim Marshall, Family and MWR division chief, participated in the tournament, and, after his team won first place, he offered “Riverview is a great course for new players, mainly because it is not difficult to play; it is short and it is also very scenic.”

The golf club has increased and revitalized their golf programming schedule to include junior golf, junior and women’s golf clinics, a player development program and equipment demonstration days.

It also has near future plans for a renovation project that include new furniture, lighting, fixtures, carpet, lockers, other locker room updates, outdoor patio enhancements and more.

Riverview also provides golf lessons conducted by PGA professional Don Lowe.  Lowe is a Class A life member of the PGA and brings over 35 years of successful teaching experience to the club.

Available sessions include ladies beginner clinic, which entitles participants to four lessons for $45.  The junior program, for ages 17 and under, includes five lessons and is available for $40.  Lastly, if one- on-one attention is preferred, 30-minute individual lessons are available $50.   Lessons are by appointment only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Memberships are also available, and fees include a daily rate range from $8 to $18, depending on military or government rank status.  Annual membership fees for an individual range from $450 to $750, while the annual fee for a family ranges from $550 to $1000, based on the previously mentioned status categories.

Annual membership fees include USGA handicap service, unlimited green fees for the current season, 10 percent discount on regularly priced merchandise in the Pro Shop, discounted tournament fees, special membership events, discounted pool memberships, and discounted annual locker fees.  A valid identification card is required to participate in membership advantages.

Finally, Riverview encourages the new formation of leagues, and according to Lowe “No league is too small for the greens at Riverview Golf Club, so go on out and try your swing.”
