NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania –
Completing a 1-year tour as Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna installation senior enlisted advisor, Army 1st Sgt. Michael S. Warren, handed over the organization’s colors on May 13 and received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his service from April 2015 to May 2016.
Discussing Warren’s time with DLA Distribution Susquehanna and the installation, commander Army Col. Corey New said “1st Sgt. Warren has contributed immeasurably to this organization. He’s one of the finest [Non-Commissioned Officers] I’ve ever had the privilege of serving with in my 25 years in the Army.”
New went on to describe Warren as an “outstanding and dedicated Senior Enlisted Advisor and leader, commitment to excellence, leadership, mission support and engagement.”
During his time with DLA, Warren increased focus on training management, leadership engagement and enhanced opportunities for military members within the organization.
He contributed to the development of the DLA Distribution Susquehanna leadership training program, created in August 2015, revamping of the new hire on-boarding process, and increasing training opportunities for non-supervisory employees.
Warren coordinated the efforts for two of DLA Distribution’s largest missions during his tenure. During July and August 2015, he was utilized the reservist support of the 304th Sustainment Brigade, ensuring metrics were delivered, and he aided in developing the concept of using organic and non-organic reservists from the Army, Navy and Air Force to remain on-time in HAZMAT operations.
He established a week-long training class that taught 80 first line civilian supervisors “Leadership 101.” He continued monthly leadership sustainment training to ensure that all leaders were providing leadership necessary in accomplishing the mission.
According to New, Warren’s commitment to the Non-Commissioned Officer Corps and leadership principles was on constant display on a daily basis through his interaction with military members, the civilian workforce and the installation agencies. He was instrumental in establishing NCO professional development with distribution centers through the network. He also established a military night that brought together military members of DLA, US Army Recruiting Command, Marine Corps Recruiting Command and Carlisle Barracks for the enhancement of the military community.
He also gave back to the surrounding community, supporting organizations such as the Bridge Street Community Food Bank and Middleton VFW.
Warren’s next assignment is at Ft. Bliss, Texas, where he will attend the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy. After completing the 9-month long program, he will be promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major.
