Susquehanna installation welcomes new First Sergeant

The newest Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna installation senior enlisted advisor took the reins in a May 13 ceremony.

Welcoming Army 1st Sgt. Janine M. Burr to the team and back to her homestate of Pennsylvania, installation commander Army Col. Corey New said, “1SG Burr is a proven leader and an expert in her field. Welcome back to Pennsylvania and welcome to [DLA Distribution Susquehanna.]”

A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Burr joined the Army in 1998 and attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. She graduated from Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, Va., and was awarded the Military Occupation Specialty of 92A, Automated Logistics Specialist.

Her past assignments include: HHC 3/81 Armor Battalion, Fort Knox, Ky.; 201st Brigade Support Battalion, Vilsek, Germany; The Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Fort Benning, Ga.; Bradley Fighting Vehicle Instructional Company, Fort Benning, Ga.; 203rd Brigade Support Battalion, Fort Benning, Ga.; 501st Sustainment Brigade, Camp Carroll, Korea, and HHC 498th Combat Service Support Battalion, Camp Carroll, Korea; HHC 68th CSSB, Fort Carson, Colo.; HHC 4TH Special Troops Battalion, 4th Sustainment Brigade, Fort Carson, Colo.

Burr is a graduate of Basic Leader Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Support Operation Course Phase I & II, Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention training, Equal Opportunity, Small Group Instructor Course, Total Army Instructor Training Course, Unit Level Logistic Systems-S4 Operator/Supervisor Course, Property Book Unit Supply Enhanced training, the Contracting Officer Representative Course, the Defense Support of Civil Authorities Phase II course and the First Sergeant Course. She received her Associate’s degree from Indiana State University and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Transportation and Logistical Management.

Burr has deployed to Kosovo in Support of Joint Guardian, and served two tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn.

Burr’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (6th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal (1 Bronze Service Star), Kosovo Campaign Medal (1 Bronze Star), Iraqi Campaign Medal (with 5 Campaign Stars), Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Developmental Ribbon with numeral 3 device, Army Service Ribbon, Oversees Service Ribbon with numeral 4 device, and NATO Medal.
