NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania –
In a ceremony officiated by Defense Logistics Agency Distribution commander Army Brig. Gen. Richard Dix, 11 Navy and Air Force reservists were presented awards for their time spent at DLA Distribution Susquehanna assisting with hazardous material packing.
The reservists successfully completed a demanding two-week certification course and nearly 80 hours of follow-on training, and then processed more than 13,000 lines of hazardous material, valued in excess of $10 million. Their assistance saved the government nearly 26,000 man hours.
“Take everything you learned here, apply it to wherever you go,” said Army Col. Ronnie Davis, DLA headquarters’ ninth J9 Army Reserve Element commander. “It is my honor to serve with each of you.”
Because of the specific requirements for HAZMAT, the area requires special knowledge and expertise to excel. The reservists successfully assisted their civilian counterparts to pack and ship a variety of items for the warfighter.
“If it wasn’t for you, the warfighter couldn’t get their material, couldn’t get their ships out, and couldn’t get their planes off the ground,” concluded Davis.
