NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania –
The Defense Distribution Center, Susquehanna installation celebrated the official reopening of its Susquehanna Club with a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 15. Installation leadership, employees and community members came together to observe the renovations to the centuries-old barn that now serves as an event venue.
After welcoming guests, including the Depot Women’s Club, the mayor of New Cumberland and local business owners, Mike Loe, deputy site director, DLA Installation Support at Susquehanna, educated the audience on the history of the historic barn.
“This building certainly holds a lot of history, from its early days in the 1800’s as a farm owned by New Cumberland’s unofficial founder, Jacob Haldeman, to its time as an officer’s mess hall when the installation was known as the Marsh Run Storage Depot, to today, where it has created and continues to create lasting memories for those that hold their special events among its antique decorations and outstanding views of the Susquehanna River… While some of the renovations over the past nine months were indeed necessary, this project provided the opportunity to restore the barn to its original look.”
Beginning in November 2015, renovations began on the club, known as The Susquehanna Club since the mid 1980’s, to restore the siding to match the barn’s original color scheme and install a new shingle and gable roof.
After thanking the many contractors and installation employees that worked on the project, Loe took the time to congratulate and thank the manager, Sharen Ewell, and Susquehanna Club staff that brought the new look to fruition as a result of “[their] vision and hard work.”

Frequently used for weddings, anniversaries, military ceremonies and other celebrations, the Susquehanna Club offers three ballrooms, amazing views of the Susquehanna River, large dance floors, multiple fireplaces and antique furnishings.
