DLA Distribution Europe commander receives Defense Meritorious Service Medal

By DLA Distribution Public Affairs DLA Distribution Public Affairs

Outgoing DLA Distribution Europe commander Army Lt. Col. Krista M. Hoffman has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for her achievements in leading the distribution center from June 2014 to June 2016.

During her two years with the organization, Hoffman and her team provided support to all surrounding combatant commands, building the organization to serve as the logistics hub of Europe.

Her largest effort has been supporting numerous contingency and humanitarian assistance operations that gained recognition form the highest levels of the Department of Defense.

Under Hoffman’s leadership, DLA Distribution Europe directly supported operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Eastern Africa, Eastern Europe, and deployed task forces in the Balkans, Black Sea, and in the Sinai. Further, DLA Distribution Europe supported DLA’s efforts in response to anti-Ebola efforts via Operation United Assistance.

During Hoffman’s first 18 months of command, DLA Distribution Europe released from stock and trans-shipped approximately 505,000 Materiel Release Orders to the warfighters of USAFRICOM, USCENTCOM and USEUCOM.

Under her leadership, DLA Distribution Europe sought out new business opportunities as the European theater better postured itself for sustained threats in the region to provide unmatched mission readiness to DOD forces partnering with NATO allies in the Baltics, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, and most recently, the NATO partner Ukraine.

Additionally, DLA Distribution Europe stood up the first-ever Army global combat support system to manage critical non-DLA army repair parts that had previously kept major combat systems down for extended periods of time.

The organization also collaborated with the service components of USAFRICOM and USEUCOM in the realization and expansion of numerous opportunities that reduced cost, decreased customer wait time, and increased readiness of the DOD.  This includes the assumption of distribution of sustainment cargo for U.S. forces in Kosovo, and, in July 2014, the organization added APO mail to its mission, saving approximately $700,000 in transportation charges.

Hoffman’s next assignment is chief, Operations Division Enlisted Branch, United States Army Human Resources Command.
